​Beth Hopkins is a multidisciplinary artist based in Croydon, South London. Her practice explores the materiality of analogue film and image-making through processes of delicate and precise damage. Working at the fragile intersection of chance and control, she treats film photography as a physical medium to be pushed to its limits, exploring light as both a creative and destructive force.

Dialogue is central to Hopkins’s practice. Conversation operates as a primary artistic method through which she develops and tests ideas around memory and the continuity of identity over time. Working collaboratively with participants, she treats dialogue as a creative process, allowing images and sequences to emerge through exchange rather than singular authorship.

Her recent project Future Selves - a book, exhibition and film developed at Bethlem Gallery - was created in dialogue with research at King’s College London into advanced decision-making. 

Alongside her studio practice, Hopkins has extensive experience facilitating artist-led workshops and collaborative projects, she curated the group exhibition Elsewhere at Bethlem Gallery in 2023.
